OCTOBER 6

“Ask and it will be given to you…” Matthew 7:7 (first part)

Sometimes we are in a situation for longer than we need to be because we forget to do what the key text suggests; ask. Something happened just this past weekend that brought this home to me.

I have got what my chiropractor describes as ‘floating shoulders’. It is not a medical term but best describes the constant position of my shoulders due to the work that I do. This means that occasionally my collarbone gets displaced, which gives rise to pain, due to the lack of a resting position. I am not good with pain and if that makes me a wimp then I embrace the description!

On Sabbath we had a wonderful fellowship involving all three of the churches in our Pastors parish. A sound uplifting message, good food and fellowship, all reasons to be cheerful. I was except for this niggling pain, which jolted the occasional wince across my face. Entering the kitchen to commence my washing up duties in casual conversation I just happened to mention that my shoulder was playing up to one of the men in there. ‘Where?’ He asked, and I duly pointed to the spot. Before I could think he had taken my arm and shoulder in a lock and like a surgeon ‘click’ popped the collarbone back in to place. Yes Bryn I am going to mention you by name. Sorry Dr Bryn.

After I had gotten over the shock and relief and listened to the explanation of how he acquired this skill (please ask him as this blog has a word limit!) he said ‘all you had to do was ask’ I replied that I didn’t know that he was able to do that, and again the response was ‘well you didn’t ask!’

How often is God just there waiting to give us a blessing and how often do we fail to ask?

Ask Him today as he is waiting to hear from you.

The song today is a message in its self that God delivers 'In time, on time every time.' A great song Bryn.

     Housekeeping details for you

The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.

A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional. Very basically we want you to find a like-minded Christian friend who you will join with to : choose to pray together every day, decide together on a way to serve other people together, to help them grow as Christians - and to invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day. This blog that you will receive every day simply gives a common spiritual purpose. If you are a newcomer and want to join the blog with this object in mind click here
