May 16 and 17
Alone in the silent night he read God's promise to Abraham of a seed numberless as the stars. The light of dawn, gilding the mountains of Moab, told of Him who should be as "the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds." 2 Sam. 23:4. And in the brightness of noontide he saw the splendour of His manifestation, when "the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together." Isa. 40:5.
Desire of Ages, page 103 from the chapter, 'The voice in the wilderness'
Look at what John the Baptist is doing. He reads the word of God in the morning, I would guess as the sun rises early in the morning, probably at about 6:00 am. John doesn’t then go off to work and forget the blessings or the information he has been given.
John has left his study and then set about his business. Perhaps he forages for a few hundred Locusts to nibble. It is possible that on the way he finds a hive full of honey and is content that he has enough to eat. He preaches and teaches encouraging and strengthening the people he meets.
What he also does is to look around him, he notes the sun at noon but makes a connection. He doesn’t just say, “what a lovely day.” He thinks, “God is glorious.”
It is a really good idea to walk along the streets with your eyes looking ahead of you. Not only will you not bump into a lamp post, you may note something that makes you say, “God is glorious.”
We go back a little to a country gospel group, to hear Marty Stewart and the Superlatives sing, ‘The unseen hand’. Please click on the picture of the poppy to listen

Housekeeping details for you
The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.
A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional. Very basically we want you to find a like-minded Christian friend who you will join with to : choose to pray together every day, decide together on a way to serve other people together, to help them grow as Christians - and to invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day. This blog that you will receive every day simply gives a common spiritual purpose. If you are a newcomer and want to join the blog with this object in mind click here
