June 6 and 7

"Under his heart-searching words, his hearers were convicted. They came to him with the inquiry, "What shall we do then?" He answered, "He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise." And he warned the publicans against injustice, and the soldiers against violence."

Much of my work today has been focussed on preparing a booklet about the gospel and how we should seek salvation. I wouldn’t have used John’s words. I would not want to say to people in need of salvation, “He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise."

John the Baptist was special. He had a job to do and he did it well, but he had an incomplete grasp of the whole picture. We see that in Acts 19:1-7 where the Apostle Paul has to give extra information to people seeking a closer walk with God.

That said, though John did not have the complete picture he shared what he had. We should do likewise, though thankfully we have more information, and more power than John as we are the ones who have the Holy Spirit filling us.

We have a duet today, Dailey and Vincent, singing ‘Steal away and pray’. Thank you Bryn. Click on the picture to listen

The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.

A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional. Very basically we want you to find a like-minded Christian friend who you will join with to : choose to pray together every day, decide together on a way to serve other people together, to help them grow as Christians - and to invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day. This blog that you will receive every day simply gives a common spiritual purpose. If you are a newcomer and want to join the blog with this object in mind click here
