The Saviour's glance seems to penetrate heaven as He pours out His soul in prayer. Well He knows how sin has hardened the hearts of men, and how difficult it will be for them to discern His mission, and accept the gift of salvation. He pleads with the Father for power to overcome their unbelief, to break the fetters with which Satan has enthralled them, and in their behalf to conquer the destroyer. He asks for the witness that God accepts humanity in the person of His Son.
Desire of Ages, page 112 from the chapter, 'The baptism'
Right after His baptism Jesus began His mission. As we are to read there were many steps to follow. We might realise from what we have read before that the first steps would be to ask for help.
This first step appears to have two thrusts. The request for help is to have power from on high. The second request is for humans to realise that God accepts humans.
Some might think that God won’t accept them because they aren’t religious. Some would think that God won’t accept them because they are sinners. Jesus wants a witness to help humans know that God accepts them.
We do, as humans, have some issues. We have unbelief, we are enthralled to Satan. We need the destroyer to be conquered.
How does Jesus deal with our need? He asks for help. Your next door neighbour doesn’t believe and is under Satan’s spell. What do you do? After committing yourself to God begin to plan – but first ask for God’s help.

Housekeeping details for you
The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.
A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional. Very basically we want you to find a like-minded Christian friend who you will join with to : choose to pray together every day, decide together on a way to serve other people together, to help them grow as Christians - and to invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day. This blog that you will receive every day simply gives a common spiritual purpose. If you are a newcomer and want to join the blog with this object in mind click here
