To a people in whose hearts His law is written, the favour of God is assured. They are one with Him. But the Jews had separated themselves from God. Because of their sins they were suffering under His judgments. This was the cause of their bondage to a heathen nation. Their minds were darkened by transgression, and because in times past the Lord had shown them so great favour, they excused their sins. They flattered themselves that they were better than other men, and entitled to His blessings.
Desire of Ages, page 107 from the chapter, 'The voice in the wilderness'
“There’s none so blind as them that will not see”. I had no idea what my Dad meant by that expression. I would hear those words as a teenager when something had gone wrong. Maths was my big problem. The latest set of grades would find my dad sucking his teeth and uttering the idiom above.
What had usually happened was that I had been given enough information to get the answers correct. The problem was that I had usually neither listened to the lesson nor learned from earlier lessons. I was usually busy thinking of something else far more interesting.
The Jews of ancient days were little different. They thought themselves so good, so regal, that they were above learning. The problem was that they weren’t failing in little things like maths exams. They failed to know God.
Do you know God?
The music video description on Youtube tells me that Bill and Gloria Gaither sing this. Well yes, and the rest of the audience ….. The performance is very good indeed. The song is ‘I stand amazed’. Click on the picture to listen

Housekeeping details for you
The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.
A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional. Very basically we want you to find a like-minded Christian friend who you will join with to : choose to pray together every day, decide together on a way to serve other people together, to help them grow as Christians - and to invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day. This blog that you will receive every day simply gives a common spiritual purpose. If you are a newcomer and want to join the blog with this object in mind click here
