February 14 and 15

"The child Jesus did not receive instruction in the synagogue schools. His mother was His first human teacher. From her lips and from the scrolls of the prophets, He learned of heavenly things. The very words which He Himself had spoken to Moses for Israel He was now taught at His mother's knee. As He advanced from childhood to youth, He did not seek the schools of the rabbis. He needed not the education to be obtained from such sources; for God was His instructor. "

The reading above is one you have seen before but takes us back to a suitable point to take on a particular prayerful journey. A friend of mine reminded me of the practical nature of what we are doing. We aren’t just reading with a view to getting through Desire of Ages as slowly as we can. At the moment we want to look at how we can create the best possible environment for the growth of our children.

Mother of course was His first teacher, but God, using Mary, was His instructor. We have to guess, from the above passage, that Mary prayed for her first born son.

My friend has asked me to ask you to pray for your children. In fact, my friend wants you to pray with her. The website for you to have a look at is entitled, ‘Praying for our children’. The basic idea is to pray for your children on the first Tuesday of each month, in the United Kingdom we would pray from 6:00pm until 6:30pm. There is the suggestion that it would be good to meet in groups. How about trying to gather a group in your church to pray for your children?  What will you pray for? I will give a reminder about the first Tuesday in the month.

     Housekeeping details for you

The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.

A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional. Very basically we want you to find a like-minded Christian friend who you will join with to : choose to pray together every day, decide together on a way to serve other people together, to help them grow as Christians - and to invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day. This blog that you will receive every day simply gives a common spiritual purpose. If you are a newcomer and want to join the blog with this object in mind click here
