“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled” Matthew 5:6

Most people, not all, use digital media everyday. For example, I use my mobile phone for browsing the Internet; to check my emails; to read my bible; to study my Sabbath School lesson; to take pictures etc. I did a little research on media usage in the UK in 2014 and found these results, which may or may not surprise you.

This is a very brief summary. According to an Ofcom™ 2014 report most UK adults, especially older adults, are now online using a range of devices. 98% of people between the ages of 16-34 are now online. 6 in 10 adults (62%) have a mobile phone. One third of mobile users say that they buy things from their phone or check their bank balances. But the main use of media is still watching the TV.

Until about 15 years ago there wasn’t really a Christian television network, but nowadays with ministries like 3ABN, The Hope Channel, Amazing Facts, TBN and GOD tv, we as Christians can find ourselves right up there. There are more and more activities that can take away the time that we used to have for God. I am not saying that we should put away these labour saving devices and ignore technology and the undoubted benefits that it brings. But let us not forget to follow the example of Jesus and spend time alone with God. The bible is filled with examples of this (Matthew 14:13; Mark 1:35; Luke 4:42; Luke 5:16; Luke 9:18; John 6:15)

The preacher/teacher Dr Adrian Roberts comments that “God did not make us to be reservoirs; He made us to be conduits. Tell others what God is showing you.”

Let us find time, gadgetfree, to follow the example of Jesus who said in Matthew 6:6 (NKJV)

“But when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
