April 27
Jesus was the healer of the body as well as of the soul. He was interested in every phase of suffering that came under His notice, and to every sufferer He brought relief, His kind words having a soothing balm. None could say that He had worked a miracle; but virtue--the healing power of love--went out from Him to the sick and distressed. Thus in an unobtrusive way He worked for the people from His very childhood. And this was why, after His public ministry began, so many heard Him gladly.
Desire of Ages, page 93 from the chapter, 'Days of Conflict'
Assume you can do no miracles. You might even assume that you have no spiritual gifts, though of course you do. Now reconsider the words from our reading, “None could say that He had worked a miracle”. Jesus spent thirty years simply being a faithful church member and did no miracle.
What we do find is that Jesus healed without using miracles. “His words had a soothing balm.”
It is Sunday today. You might choose to do an act of random kindness today, on the other hand you might also decide that you are going to heal somebody today with some soothing words. To do that make a simple plan.
The first element in the plan is for you to invite the Holy Spirit into your life. The second element is to choose the person you would like to heal. The third element in your master plan is to work out the words – and then finally go out and use those healing words to do something special.
Bryn has chosen, 'if God is a stranger' for us to listen to. The song, by Lloyd Snow, marks a return to the country music that marks Bryn's real choice of personal music. His new trio sang beautifully last night. Please click on the picture to listen.

Housekeeping details for you
The point of this short blog will become clear if you decide to use this reading in the way we intend it. Netherfield Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in healthy churches. You can see what that means if you head to the relevant Healthy Churches page of the website. We also want other churches to be healthy. That means you can join in our campaign to create healthy churches, with healthy people serving the people in those churches.
A healthy church is one where Jesus comes first. A healthy church is one where the people work together to put Jesus first. One thing we are doing is to join people together to spread that news. I would like you to look at our prayer partners page. This will explain how we want you to use this short devotional. Very basically we want you to find a like-minded Christian friend who you will join with to : choose to pray together every day, decide together on a way to serve other people together, to help them grow as Christians - and to invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day. This blog that you will receive every day simply gives a common spiritual purpose. If you are a newcomer and want to join the blog with this object in mind click here
